Circle of Concern Vs. Circle of Control
How much does the content you consume affect your #mood?
Do you feel your mood, wellbeing or outlook changing because of that content?
I know I do - getting sucked into mood altering content is super easy; gossip, click-bait, fake news, or even general news. There's so much non-sense noise out there, clogging up our minds.
All this noise prevents us from doing so many things; creating, thinking, sharing ideas and just experiencing life.
In these #nudenotes I'm sharing my notes on James Clear blog of the same name, inspired by Steven Covey’s best-selling book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
This blog and my notes helped me process something I've been thinking about a lot over the past few years - how do you keep positive when your exposed to all this jibberish!?
The answer is surprisingly simple, take a closer look at your circle of control, and your circle of concern - how much bigger is one over the other.
Using this framework we can start to think more proactively and consciously about the content and information we consume. Challenging ourselves to find a more healthy diet for our minds.
In the blog article James suggests asking yourself some simple questions like:
Do you really need social media apps on your phone?
Or will you be just fine checking Facebook and Twitter when you get home?
Is it necessary to turn on the same news program every night?
Are you living a better life because of watching it?
If something isn't making you happy, or enriching your life why are you doing it?
Stop, drop your phone and take a deep breathe.
If your really want to hear the latest celebrity gossip - as James says:
"Be intentional about getting quality information on that topic. And more importantly, take some action on it. It’s great to be smart, but it’s better to be helpful."
How do are you being intentional with your content consumption?
